NOW HIRING - Level 2 IT Technician (Growth to IT Manager)
Location: Petersburg, Alaska (Remote Island – Onsite Only)
Type: Full-Time Employment Reports To: Owner/Operator and Office Coordinator
Overview:
Homeport Electronics is hiring an experienced, hands-on IT technician ready to take point on client installs, support internal team members, and grow into a leadership role. This position is onsite only — you’ll be working in-person with our team and local clients on a remote island in southeast Alaska.
Who is our Perfect Candidate: We’re looking for someone with real-world experience who’s ready to get their hands dirty, not someone fresh out of school. This role combines technical work, soft skills, and long-term growth potential.
What You’ll Do:
- Handle escalated IT tasks: network admin, Microsoft 365, client device management
- Install and configure network equipment at client sites and in the field
- Troubleshoot support tickets passed up from frontline techs
- Support select client accounts, including recurring field visits under contract
- Mentor junior techs without direct management authority
- Document systems details, fixes, and jobs
- Contribute to SOP development and operational workflows
- Work both in the office/shop and at local client sites
What We’re Looking For:
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft cloud services
- Proven background in network administration (firewalls, routers, switching)
- Real-world troubleshooting skills — both desktop and infrastructure
- Bonus: Experience with Ubiquiti/UniFi, pfSense, HaloPSA, ConnectWise Automate, Halopsa, Hudu, and Zoho
- Excellent communication skills with clients and team members
- Able to work independently and manage your workload responsibly
- Professionalism and people skills — this is a client-facing role
- Willingness to relocate or already located in Alaska
-Must have a valid Driver’s License
Preferred Experience:
Several years of field experience or mid-level IT work
- Comfort working in smaller teams and remote settings
- Optional: experience in marine environments, low-voltage installs, or Alaska logistics
